Can
I get training on Writing Skills?
What
is it? How does it work?
It's
a self-study programme. Whether you work through the programme
on-screen (CDROM) or using the PDF E-book, the process is the
same. There are short and long process tasks, assignments and
exercises, detailed discussions of the tasks and frequent explanations
and examples. As you work through the programme you will develop
your ability to analyse data, plan the report, draft in a clear
and well-organised way and edit your report for effectiveness.
How
long does it take to work through the course?
It
shouldn't take more than about 30 - 40 hours of your time. If
you do around three hours study twice a week, you should complete
in little over a month.
Is
it an online training course?
No,
it isn't. You don't need an Internet connection after you have
copied the files, but we do suggest you sign up for the mailing
list. From time to time we will be supplementing the programme
with new ideas, insights and exercises. When you purchase, you
will also be given the opportunity to register, so we can contact
you with updates and ideas.
How
do I get my download?
As
soon as you complete the secure online purchase, the download
link to the Ebook only is sent to your email. You should make
sure you download the file before the link expires within 5 days.
My
link has expired - what can I do?
If
your link has expired, don't worry. There is a back-up of the
Ebook on the CD.
Can
I buy a download for someone else?
Yes,
you can. You simply enter the email and shipping address of the
person who will be the owner of the Handbook during the payment
process.
I
downloaded the file - why won't it open?
Possibly
the file became corrupted during download, or the line dropped.
Try using a download manager such as 'getright'. (Alternatively,
if you are using a download manager, try switching it off.)
Retry downloading, and if the link has expired and you still haven't
succeeded, let us know, or wait for the CD to arrive.
I
tried to use the link but the line dropped - how can I get my
file?
Please
contact us.
Do
I need the CD?
FIf
you are a Single-user and just want the Ebook, you don't have
to get the CD. However, many people find the CDROM version easier
to work through during free time during their working day.
Can
we get the Handbook before receipt of payment?
If
you are paying by bank transfer, we will need to confirm payment
before we send you the link manually. For all bank drafts, we
will need you to send us a copy of the stamped deposit slip by
email attachment to reconcile our records. Under very special
circumstances we may be able to release the CD after deposit and
before the payment arrives at our account.
What's
with the different prices?
The
Single-user Licence is, as it says, for one person only. If you
plan to distribute multiple copies, you should get a licence.
Licences offer organisations an opportunity to distribute copies
of the Handbook and CD to their staff in good conscience.
We
are 3 / 15 / 25 people - what shall we do?
If
fewer than 10, you can enter the number of copies dueing the payment
process. Contact us if you need a licence for an odd number of
users - however, you should be able to find a licence type that
covers your needs.
Can
we use the Handbook in a workshop?
If
you purchase the Trainer Edition, you can use for non-commercial
training purposes for your own staff. There is no limit on how
many staff you can train, although if you plan to provide them
with copies of the Handbook, we suggest you make sure you purchase
licences for all.
Is
the Training Pack available separately?
Yes.
Smaller groups that wish to use the Training Pack can purchase
for a further £250, alongside the licences they have purchased
for the Handbook itself.
How
long does it take to deliver the training?
30
hours - which can be spread over 3-hour sessions, so you can do
in as short a time as one week or spread it out over 10 weeks.
It's very flexible.
Is
there a way we can order a print copy?
No,
there's no printed edition, but the PDF document is printer-friendly
But
I thought I was getting a book!
The
Reporting Skills and Professional Writing Handbook is a self-study
programme in HTML and PDF formats. Books go out-of-date, get damaged
and can take forever to arrive. With the Handbook, you will get
free updates for two years and can access the Ebook without waiting.
Can
we print for use in a library or self-access centre?
Yes,
you can treat a soft copy of the handbook the same as you would
any book. Normal copyright rules apply, so sharing the printed
copy informally or through a library of study-centre is fine as
long as entire duplicate copies are not made for users.
Can
we install for library users on a single computer?
Yes,
as long as they cannot copy electronically (e.g. to pen drive).
The CDROM can be installed on one PC under the Single-user Licence,
but for Networks you will need an extended licence.
Can
we install on an Intranet, Extranet or Local Area Network?
Not
unless you purchase a licence for each user.
Can
I use parts of the Handbook in to train others?
Knowledge
is knowledge. Adapting parts of the handbook for training is quite
OK, though please do credit ELD on any handouts you provide as
follows: 'adapted from the Reporting Skills and Professional Writing
Handbook, published by ELD: www.reportingskills.org'. If you plan
to use major parts of the Handbook, though, we suggest you invest
in the Training Pack.
Can
I make copies and share with friends?
If
your friends think the Handbook is valuable, please recommend
that they order their own copy.
Can
I share the download link with others?
The
link is for your personal use only and will expire after a certain
number of download attempts. If the same link is downloaded from
different locations, the licence for upgrades will be invalid.
I
can't find a payment method for my country!
If
PayPal will not let you place your order, we suggest you ask someone
else to place the order for you and nominate you as the licence
holder. Otherwise, contact us for bank draft details.
Can
I pay by bank draft?
Yes,
for orders of £300 or higher, bank draft is acceptable.
Please complete the invoice request
form to get banking details.
Can
you invoice us before payment?
Yes,
for orders of £2300 or higher. See above.
Can
I get a free copy of the Handbook?
Not
as a download, but if you have signed
up to the mailing list you will eventually get most of what
you need.
Is
there a price for developing countries?
Unfortunately,
it isn't possible to verify the
circumstances of each case, so prices are fixed. However, signing
up for the mailing list will allow you access much the programme
over time.
The
Ebook alone is just a download - why is it worth £20 pounds?
That's
a bit like saying attending a training course is just a 'seat
on a chair'. The Handbook represents the best of 10 years' experience
training development professionals how to make their reports get
results without wasting time. How much is your time worth? What
price can you put on better project performance that comes from
good analysis and clear recommendations?
Can
I get training on Writing Skills?
If
you are close to Nepal, Thailand or Turkey, you may be able to
attend an ELD training course. See www.eld.org.uk
for details. Organisations seeking in-house training should contact
the nearest ELD office.
